The snow goose, Canada goose and malard duck mecanic decoys. Are they efficient?

Not all the hunters think the same about the efficiency of the decoys used for marsh or field hunting. In fall, you can hunt in a duck boat or in a sink box.

On Saint-Pierre lake, for example, you can hunt with in a sink box. Comments from marsh duck hunters are that in a sink box, the mecanic duck decoy is not efficient and could even be harmful because ducks come but hesitate or even turn their back to the sink box. Ducks are nervous in sight of the mecanic decoys.

When we hunt the wild duck in marsh or pound, we must use some duck decoys and 1 or 2 mecanic mallard ducks; you can also repaint your duck decoy like black duck for a superior hunting success.

Especially late in the hunting season, the black duck feels more secure in the marsh, in the field or in a closer place. A remote control is important fo maximise the using time of your robot dsuck because of the batteries. They won’t work all day specially in a windy temperature and could fall down rapidly even if the manufacturer evaluates its using time to around 4 to 6 hours.

A duck call will reassure the ducks when they are coming to the decoys. You know that the black duck is the hardest migrating bird to hunt especially in full season. So, you really need to make perfect calls avoiding any fatal mistake.

Snow goose or Canada goose hunting

For Canada goose hunting, I had no real success using mecanic decoys. I tried in many situations and the only thing I can say is they are not useful for Canada goose hunting.

For Snow goose hunting, decoys are important but cost a lot of money. You need 8 to 12 mecanic snow geese for a moving effect. When I use 500 to 800 snow goose decoys, because of the wide space used, the layout of the mecanic snow geese is important. In fall, you must never forget to install many snow goose decoys because of the herd instinct of the white geese; we want their faith coming on to see a great group.

Battery problem

Hunting the snow goose is interesting because of the tides sending the geese out of the water for a better hunting opportunity for the whole day. But we have a major problem for an entire day hunting.

The manufacturer’s batteries last around 4 to 6 hours when the mecanic decoy works. This time is lowered when it is windy. I use a better amperage battery sold by “LES BATTERIES ROZON” - and old family story company selling everywhere in Québec.
